Villanova Series Recap

PCB opened the spring season against Villanova this past weekend at Meiklejohn Stadium. After getting rained out of the Saturday game, we played two on Sunday, with the second a full nine inning game. Game one was a nail-biter. The bats were cold early on, and even after they woke up, we couldn’t come up with a clutch hit to make the breakthrough. Fortunately, Andrew Becker was lights out on the mound, striking out 14 through 7 innings to send the game into extra innings. It took 10 innings, but finally, with the game tied 1-1, Jerome Allen came through with the big 2 RBI base hit we had been looking for, and PCB held on for the 4-2 win in what was a marathon of a game.

Game 2 continued in much the same style. Timmy Miller pitched seven strong innings, the defense continued to play solidly, and there was just enough offense to take a 4-2 lead into the 8th. Timmy handed the ball over to Nate Robinson, who closed out the game with a six out save. The win capped 19 total innings of baseball and a Sunday sweep that moved PCB to 7-2 in divisional play. Some highlights and lowlights:

Highlights:

  • Quality pitching
  • Not making a single error in the field over 19 innings
  • James Townsend raking
  • Playing at the Meik
  • Hoagies between the games and postgame cookies

Lowlights:

  • Getting “rained” out on Saturday (despite the only rain coming on Thursday)
  • Leaving runners on base in extra innings

Thanks to all the fans and parents who came out and supported us on Sunday. We will attempt to get a series in against Rowan next weekend to keep our strong season going.
